Is the Dog Hause a group? Can I join it or send money?

The Dog Hause does not collect money for non-profits or animals directly.

If you would like to buy stuff there are some items on the Dog Hause for sale too. You can buy spay and neuter merchandise.

What a cool site, why did you create it, Holly?

I wanted to learn HTML, and I saw that there was a lack of sites devoted to animals with content past this-is-my-dog-fluffy-this-is-her-photograph-please-send-email. I started collecting free animal graphics (no longer offered) and it just grew from there. Every once and awhile I am inspired and I just add another section.

How much time did the Dog Hause take?

Forever and a day. It was started in 1995 as a Geocities site. I'm still working on it today.

What font do you use as your title font?

It's called Party and it came free with my HP DeskJet 970cse many years ago.

Who do you Host with?

Readyhosting.com

What software do you use to create web pages?

The main ones are Adobe Photoshop, Notepad and HomeSite. But I have also use Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator and whatever I find useful that particular day.

Really? Boy that is an old article. But sure if you want to translate it go ahead. Some of it probably still applies. The top 15 mistakes of Web Design may be reproduced in its entirety, as long as Holly Burns, the author, is credited and a reference is made back to the Dog Hause, http://www.doghause.com/. Although it is not necessary, a complimentary copy of any publication where the article is included would also be appreciated.

I've added the Dog Hause link tag, but it is displaying a broken icon or the link does not work -- how come?

This can be caused by any number of reasons. Look at the checklist below of what you can do to find the true error:

View the document's source using Netscape, and look at the coloration of the tags. Very frequently, this will help you determine what is wrong. Compare your tag to this standard tag (remember that the dhbanner.gif would be replaced by what ever graphic you picked); do they compare?

I have a graphical browser (like Netscape's editor) that does not allow me to add all that code to link to the Dog Hause. What should I do to add the DH linking tag using my HTML editor?

Don't even try. In my experience, I've found that most HTML editors are very difficult to use when it comes to tags. I recommend that after designing your page with your HTML editor and saving it to a file, then load this file into a simple text editor such as Note Pad or Simpletext and then add the Dog Hause link tag there.

No. Although it does take me some time (sometimes up to a month or 6), I do look at everything sent to me. Because of the bulk of it all, I cannot respond to it all.

Nothing. If I said I would do something, I'll do it, it just takes me some time to get around to everything.

How and why did you learn HTML? Did you take a class?

I had a friend who liked the internet when it was brand spanking new. Back then I had never heard of the internet. He had this web site that was black text aligned to the left on a white page. I thought "I can do that" so I bought a book, Creating Web Pages for Dummies. I just started there and learned by trying out doing different things and looking at other people's code. No classes.

Do you own any pets?

Yes, 2 cats and a dog.

What animal do you think is best? Dogs or cats?

I love most all animals and think both dogs and cats have their charm and their place. I should say that I think dogs are a ton of work.
